Craigellachie 32 Years Old [Single Cask / The Whisky Jury] Distilled 1994 - Matured in a Refill Barrel - Bottled 2026 - 183 btl. - 48.2% abv.
It is one of the more robust speyside drams, from our experience. For those that paid attention to our first YouTube-video: this is the Craigellachie cask we hunted down when we traveled to Scotland last year. A good insight on how long it can take to get some liquid into a bottle. But what a liquid! It wasn’t the cheapest of casks, but if you like oldschool whisky, this is definitely the dram to pick up this release. We simply couldn’t let it slide. This is cask driven in the best way. Beautiful polished oak, cloves, cinnamon and dried herbs, without losing any of the backbone of the whisky. There is a surprising amount of dried red fruit showing up in the whisky that would make us suspect sherry cask aging. We have no evidence of this, but it’s surely a nice surprise. The slow oxidation on this cask is also very present. It gives that extra layer of length and balance we look for in a whisky of this level. The angels only left us about 180 bottles, so they must have agreed.
Cheers,
TWJ
