Unlike the vast majority of Tamdhu releases, this cask comes with a mystery attached. Matured in an unspecified hogshead, there is no certainty whether it previously held bourbon, sherry, or something entirely different. The result is a whisky that strays remarkably far from Tamdhu's well-known fruity sherry-forward house style, making it a truly exceptional and highly intriguing bottling.
So, what can we discover here?
The nose opens with dried raisins, gooseberries preserved in syrup, buttery shortbread biscuits and fresh vanilla pods. Delicate rose petals mingle with the vibrant zestiness of Buddha's hand citrus, while a nostalgic note reminiscent of an old-fashioned wooden candy shop adds further charm.
The palate continues this sweet fascination with tarte tatin, Amaretti sweets and a generous layer of creamy toffee.
