Words of LBD - We fondly remember the old Diageo special releases with the unpeated Caol Ilas.
The majority of these bottles had a sherried component and so we did consider a sherry finish on this stock. However, this is a deliberately distillate forward expression. Naked and peat free to give you the chance to understand the true character of the unpeated distillate.
WHISKIES LIKE THIS SHOULD BE ABOUT THE DISTILLATE
Caol Ila is a spirit that we love, you’ve heard us say that many times before, but the chance to appreciate, understand and add unpeated Caol Ila to your palate memory bank drove our decisions here. A wonderfully high cutting point making for something quite elegant, sweet and delicate. The rarity made these casks fairly expensive but we hope you agree the experience is worth it.
The label – Chris has accused me of being too obscure with some of the references to our label art, this is no exception.
The theme, the absence of peat/Pete. Peter Green was one of the founding members of the band Fleetwood Mac. They continued long after he left the band but the first album without Pete was Kiln House. So no Pete/peat but there’s a kiln? Surely this is the perfect reference for a Caol Ila without Peat!
We’ve used the greens, reds and cream colours and pencil style of the album art to make our label, some unpeated barley growing. Obscure references, it’s the LBD approach. An original artwork by Alex our designer.
We also didn’t think to mention on the label that this incredibly rare unpeated Caol Ila was errr unpeated, so we got we extra stickers made up to mark the occasion.
