With its Oak Maturation Series, Isle of Raasay delves deep into the fascinating world of oak. While many distilleries talk about their wood policy, this series places the casks themselves centre stage. Each annual release explores how a specific oak species, its origin and the way the cask was crafted contribute to the whisky’s final character.
This limited release from the Oak Species Maturation Series was matured in ex-Oloroso sherry barriques made from rare Hungarian oak (Quercus petraea) sourced from the Zemplén Mountains. The wood’s fine grain ensures a slow, refined maturation, beautifully balancing spice, sweetness and smoke.
