Zacapa XO is a unique balance of complex aromas and flavours derived from an exclusive blend of cask-aged rums. Zacapa selects rums matured using the Sistema Solera. Older and younger rums are blended as they age in a series of casks that previously held robust American whiskies, delicate sherries and fine Pedro Ximénez wines, and are finally finished in French oak casks that once contained cognac. Zacapa XO is best enjoyed neat and pairs beautifully with dark chocolate and desserts.
Zacapa Centenario XO is a blend of rums aged between 6 and 25 years. It offers a perfect balance of sweetness, spice, fruit and alcohol — an ultimate expression of the Master Blender’s craftsmanship.
Zacapa was first distilled in 1976, when Licoreras de Guatemala decided to create a special rum to celebrate the centenary of the town of Zacapa. It is produced from sugar cane grown on the volcanic plains of southwestern Guatemala, at around 350 metres above sea level.
The base is sugar cane honey, obtained from the first pressing of the sugar cane, which gives the rum a smooth, rounded and slightly sweet character. Zacapa is a blend of different rums, aged between 6 and 25 years, matured according to the solera system in American whiskey casks, Spanish sherry casks and Pedro Ximénez casks. Zacapa always matures in the thin mountain air at an altitude of 2,300 metres, in “The House Above the Clouds.” The low temperatures slow the ageing process, while the atmospheric pressure and thinner air enhance the absorption of flavours from the wood. This slow maturation results in a rum with exceptional aroma and remarkable smoothness.
