Matsui Shuzou Distillery is opgericht in 1910 ten noordwesten van Kyoto. In het begin werd er enkel Sake en Shōchū gedistilleerd. De whisky range werd later toegevoegd met als eerste exemplaar deze Kurayoshi Pure Malt Whisky. Geproduceerd van 100% gemoute gerst.
