The Balvenie dankt zijn kwaliteit aan de vijf ambachten waarmee de whisky gemaakt wordt. De distilleerderij verbouwt haar eigen gerst, mout op eigen traditionele moutvloeren, heeft kuipers in dienst om de vaten te verzorgen en een kopersmid voor het onderhoud aan de ketels en de langstwerkende malt meester uit de industrie, David Stewart, die al meer dan 50 jaar de whisky's van The Balvenie samenstelt. De 1ste rijping vindt plaats in Amerikaans eikenhout en wordt daarna overgegoten in Europese sherry vaten. De traditionele vaten maken de whisky zacht en soepel en voegen karakter toe, terwijl het Europese hout een diepe, fruitige volle smaak geeft aan de whisky.
